Peter Stefanovic has given an update on his brother Karl amid his recent Michael Clarke media storm, revealing he’s “hanging in there”.
The Today show host himself is yet to address the explosive footage, taken in a Noosa park earlier this month and released last week, which showed a shirtless Clarke being slapped across the face and screamed at by his girlfriend, Karl’s sister-in-law, Jade Yarbrough, over cheating claims.
At one point in the clip, Clarke turns on his longtime friend, who appears to be trying to diffuse the situation, and says: “Karlos, I can tell you now c**t, don’t you f***ing walk away. She can, she can punch me, but you, you c**t.”
During an interview on Nova FM’s Fitzy and Wippa show on Tuesday, Peter was asked how his brother was holding up amid the headline-dominating drama.
“I think he’s going okay, yeah. Yeah, he’s hanging in there,” the Sky News host replied.
However, when pressed by Fitzy on whether Karl’s longstanding friendship with the former cricket star was “over”, Peter was vague.
“You never know how these things work out. You know, there’s ebbs and flows,” he told the hosts, before adding that Karl was in “(paparazzi) city” at the moment.
“And it’s never a flattering photo they take, is it? It’s always mid-stride,” Peter joked.
The high-profile duo were filmed by a bystander engaged in an unbelievable public fight on January 10, which initially involved Clarke, 41, and Yarbrough, 30.
Yarbrough was heard accusing Clarke of cheating with his ex-girlfriend, Pip Edwards, last month – which he strenuously denied in the footage, swearing on his “daughter’s life”.
In the expletive-laden video, Yarbrough can be seen slapping Clarke in the face multiple times and pushing him to the ground, which reportedly resulted in a hamstring injury.
Shortly afterwards, Clarke is seen limping when Karl gets involved.
Clarke is heard saying to the TV personality: “Karlos, I can tell you now c**t, don’t you f***ing walk away. She can, she can punch me, but you, you c**t …” Clarke said.
This spray set Yarbrough off in defence of Stefanovic, where she was seen slapping Clarke again.
The group had been holidaying together in Noosa at the time, along with Karl’s wife, Jasmine Yarbrough and celebrity accountant Anthony Bell.
Clarke issued a grovelling apology for his actions in a statement to the The Daily Telegraph after the footage was released.
“I accept full responsibility for this altercation and am shattered by my actions,” he said.
“I’m absolutely gutted I’ve put people I hold in the highest regard in this position. My actions in the lead-up to this altercation were nothing short of shameful and regrettable.
“I am shattered that because of my actions I’ve drawn women of class and integrity, and my mates, into this situation.”
