Jackie O has given her review of the NSW Opposition leader’s policies, saying he has her tick of approval ahead of the state election.
Chris Minns appeared on the Kyle and Jackie O Show on Monday morning, with both hosts grilling him about his party’s newest proposals.
In particular, Labor’s plan to cap Sydney road tolls at $60 was up for discussion, a move aimed to save motorists cash in the cost of living crisis.
“Labor leader Chris Minns wants to be the Premier, he’s got all these new ideas,” Kyle said.
“I find them very progressive, Jackie is sold already. He’s done something last
week where he’s putting a cap on your tolls.”
Jackie was quick to double-down on the tick of approval.
“You don’t have to pay over $60 right? That’s me, I’m done. Sign me up! You are my new premier,” she said.
The proposed toll cap is an extension of the 40 per cent toll rebate recently introduced by the current Coalition government, for motorists who spend more than $375 on tolls during the 2022-23 financial year, which NSW Labor has pledged to continue in conjunction with their new policy.
Currently, with a maximum rebate amount of $750, the benefits run out after drivers hit a toll spend of $1875.
Under Labor’s proposed plan, the maximum annual spend on tolls would be $3120, with refunds issued each quarter.
Mr Minns said if Labor was elected, the $147m scheme would come into effect from January 1, 2024 for two years.
While the cap only applies to cars and motorcycles (Class A vehicles) Mr Minns flagged on Sunday there would incoming policy promises for truck drivers.
The radio show’s producer told listeners both Mr Minns and NSW Premier Dom Perrottet have presented gracious options for voters if elected.
“I think this election is like the best election I’ve covered in my career like it’s just … not about you,” he said.
“Normally it’s very negative and one of (the candidates) is a bit of an idiot, or really right wing or whatever.”
The NSW state election will be held on March 25.
