A man who barricaded himself armed with a box cutter knife forcing the closure of Adelaide’s busy Rundle St for several hours has been arrested.
South Australia Police were called to a car park on Rundle St after a man barricaded himself in an office armed with a box cutter about 11am on Sunday.
Metropolitan Fire Service crews, specially trained STAR Group officers and police negotiators attended the scene in an attempt to speak with the man.
Police confirmed several tactical options were used to safely detain him.
He was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for an assessment.
The 33-year-old man of no fixed address is expected to be charged with property damage, two counts of assault police and carry offensive weapon.
He is expected to be refused police bail and appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.
“Police would like to thank the public for their patience as Rundle Street and the carpark were closed for a couple of hours,” SA Police stated on Sunday.
